PREREQUISITES: Musical Theatre is an audition-only course. Auditions will be held during the time of course selection. Students should have taken Theatre 1 or Choir. Students in this course must also be enrolled in either a theatre or choir course concurrently.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In Musical Theatre (performance ensemble), students will intensify their study of theatre and musical theatre beyond the boundaries of previous theatrical experiences. It is highly recommended for students serious about pursuing theatre and musical theatre as a college major or minor and/or career. Great emphasis will be placed on developing one’s audition skills, and students will be expected to participate in a rigorous audition process as part of the course. Musical Theatre Performance explores musical theatre in a studio workshop setting. Students will study the work of the actor/singer/dancer and use their gained knowledge to develop as performers. There will be a heavy concentration on vocal methods and music, including vocal production, vocal technique, music reading, and sight-singing. Students will prepare and present as soloists and members of small groups and larger ensembles. Additionally, students will study different dance styles, including modern, jazz, tap, and contemporary. Finally, students will participate in a fully realized performance. |
